The [Ultra Compact] Portable Monitor Stand Travel is worth buying if you work from odd surfaces like round cafe tables or hotel desks where clamp-on arms can’t grip. It folds to 8.85 inches, holds up to 1.98 lb magnetically, and rotates a full 360 degrees. Buy it if you need a screen at eye level without drilling or clamping anything.

How this review was made: written from my own video review of this product. Every opinion here is my own, from using it myself.
Quick Verdict
It held my 25-in iPad Pro extremely well even with the case on, just by itself, before I even added the magnet. Once the magnetic plate clicked on, it just held on and didn’t budge. That’s a steadier result than I expected from something that folds down to 8.85 inches.
Buy if you:
- work from cafe tables, hotel desks, or round surfaces a clamp can’t grip
- run a MacBook dual-screen setup and want a second portable monitor or iPad up at eye level
- travel and want to watch movies on an iPad propped up in a hotel room or in bed
- need to switch between landscape and portrait for coding, spreadsheets, or documents
Skip if you:
- need it to work with a device that has zero metal plate option and you don’t want to attach the included magnetic ring
- want a permanent desk fixture instead of something you fold up and move
- plan to mount something heavier than 1.98 lb, like a full-size external monitor

The Magnet Holding a 25-In iPad Pro Is What Sold Me
Before I even attached the magnetic plate, my 25-in iPad Pro, case still on, sat on this stand without slipping. The moment the magnet clicked on, it locked dead still; I tilted it, rotated it, and couldn’t get it to shift. I’ve been running it daily for weeks, both at my desk and on the go, and that grip hasn’t changed.
Does a compact monitor stand like this actually survive daily folding?
The lock ring at the base will be the first piece to show wear from daily folding, but everything else feels engineered for thousands of cycles. Closed, you hit the red button and it pops open on its own instead of you having to pry the legs apart. The feet extend down and there’s a lock at the bottom that keeps the base at whatever width you’ve set, so it adjusts its footprint depending on the surface. That lock ring is the part doing the most work here. If it ever loosens up from daily folding and unfolding, that’s the piece I’d keep an eye on, though I haven’t had an issue with it yet.
What You’re Paying For Versus a Clamp Arm
This folds flat and stands freely, no desk edge needed, no drilling, no clamps. A standard clamp arm can’t do that. This stands freely on its own tripod base, no drilling, no clamp, no screws. The price has been stable, no flash-sale cycles I’ve noticed, so don’t wait for a deal that probably isn’t coming. The only real question is whether you need a freestanding setup a clamp arm can’t give you. If you only ever work at one fixed desk with a solid edge, a clamp arm might do more for less. But if you move between surfaces, this is doing something a clamp simply can’t.
The Ball Joint and Mic Shoe Mount
The 360-degree ball joint unlocks with a knob for full rotation or locks into any fixed angle you set. It comes with three different MagSafe rings, so you can put one on your cell phone, one on a tablet, and one on a portable monitor, and swap between devices without buying three separate mounts. If your device doesn’t have MagSafe built in, you attach one of the metal rings and the magnet grabs onto that instead. There’s also a small mic shoe mount on the stand itself, so you can clip on a microphone, a light, or a portable webcam if you’re using this as part of a content setup rather than just a monitor stand.
Who This Compact Monitor Stand Actually Fits
The person this is built for is the one who packs up their whole workstation and moves it, cafe in the morning, client site at noon, hotel desk at night. One stand, 0.48 lb, handles all three without clamping to anything. I use it with my multiple-monitor setup, where I’ll put the iPad on this stand, open my laptop, and go back and forth using the MacBook dual-screen feature, or just run it standalone with a keyboard while my main monitor sits up top. It’s also handy for travel if you just want to prop up an iPad in bed or at a hotel and watch something. It’s not the fit for someone who wants to mount a full external monitor heavier than the 1.98 lb limit, and it’s not a replacement for a dedicated multi-monitor arm bolted to a desk. For anyone whose workspace changes more than their monitor does, this is the one built for that.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this compact monitor stand with a phone instead of a tablet?
Yes. It comes with three MagSafe rings specifically so you can swap it between a phone, a tablet, or a portable monitor without buying separate mounts. It works as a standalone phone tripod too, using the included metal rings.
Does the magnetic plate damage or leave marks on my iPad or monitor?
The metal plate sticks on with adhesive and needs about two hours to fully set before you start using it, per the product listing. It’s a thin plate meant to sit flush on the back, not something that scratches the surface during normal use.
Will this compact monitor stand tip over on an uneven cafe table?
It’s built with anti-slip feet and a lock ring that sets the base width to match the surface, which is the whole point of a clamp-free design. I used it on multiple surfaces without a tip-over issue, though an extremely uneven table is always going to be harder on any tripod base.
Is there a warranty if the lock ring or ball joint wears out?
Warranty terms come from the seller on the Amazon listing itself rather than anything shown in my test, so check the current listing page for the specific coverage before you buy.
