The U-shaped memory foam cushion is worth buying if tailbone pain or sciatica wrecks your afternoons at a desk, in the car, or on the couch. As an OT, I use it myself because the cutout takes the coccyx out of the equation entirely and shifts weight to your sit bones instead. Skip it if you need something flat and low-profile for a tight seat.

How this review was made: written from my own video review of this product. Every opinion here is my own, from using it myself.

Quick Verdict

As an OT, I tell patients their coccyx takes the load every single minute they sit flat. This U-shaped cutout takes it off entirely, and I use it myself, in my own chair, every day.

Buy if you:

  • Deal with tailbone pain by midday in your desk chair
  • Have sciatica flare-ups from long sitting stretches
  • Switch between a wheelchair, couch, and computer chair in the same day
  • Spend long stretches in the car and feel it in your lower back

Why Your Tailbone Aches by Noon

Sit flat for eight hours and your coccyx bears the entire load the entire time. That pressure doesn’t announce itself right away. It builds slowly into that dull ache you don’t notice until you stand up and feel it. I see this with patients constantly, people who sit for work and never connect the dots between a flat seat and the pain creeping into their lower back by the afternoon.

The U-Shaped Cutout Does the Actual Work

Your sit bones, the two bony prominences at the base of your pelvis, are designed to bear load. Your coccyx is not. The cutout positions that tail-end of your spine over open air, so the weight your body would normally drive straight into it gets redirected to the sit bones instead. The memory foam itself molds around your body rather than staying rigid, so the pressure redistribution isn’t a one-time fit, it adjusts as you shift in your seat. The cushion is thick enough to work on a soft couch without bottoming out, and flat enough to slide into a desk chair or wheelchair without raising your seat height enough to matter. You can see it on Amazon to check the current shape and sizing before you decide.

Why I Recommend This Over Just Toughing It Out

I started using this in my own chair after a run of long clinic days left my tailbone aching by 3 p.m. , the same complaint I was hearing from patients. Within a week the afternoon ache was gone. The price fluctuates enough that it’s worth checking the current price on Amazon before you buy.

Loses a notch on value since the price swings around instead of sitting still, so you have to time your purchase. The relief itself, taking the coccyx off the load entirely, is the part that earns the 4.5 for effectiveness. Anyone without tailbone or sciatica pain doesn’t need this at all, but if that pressure builds into an ache by noon, this closes most of the gap.
