The TONGATE case for the iPhone Pro Max is worth buying if you want MagSafe charging, a built-in kickstand, and a privacy screen protector in one package. It supports 25W fast charging through N52SH magnets and the stand is rated for 10,000 open-close cycles. Buy it if you’re tired of juggling a car mount, stand, and screen protector separately.

How this review was made: written from my own video review of this product. Every opinion here is my own, from using it myself.

Quick Verdict

My fingers glide across this thing, it doesn’t feel sticky, and the buttons are still clicky and responsive through the case. I’d actually buy this one myself.

Buy if you:

  • Want a kickstand built into the case instead of a separate pop socket
  • Use MagSafe chargers, car mounts, or wallets regularly
  • Want a privacy screen protector already included
  • Drop your phone more than you’d like to admit

Pulling It Out of the Box

The privacy screen went dark the moment I tilted it past 45 degrees, and the kickstand locked tight without any play, two things I didn’t expect from a bundled accessory case. This TONGATE case ships with an anti-glare privacy screen protector already in the box, no separate purchase, no hunting for a compatible size. I put my phone face up on the table and turned it side to side, and the screen just disappears from an angle. Same thing the other way. Installation was easy too, they give you a video walking you through it right in the box.

Only Fits the 18 Pro Max, and That’s a Dealbreaker for Some

This case is built specifically for the 6.9″ iPhone 18 Pro Max and isn’t compatible with the 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 18, or 18 Pro. If you’re upgrading and already ordered this before confirming your exact model, you’re the one group this case isn’t going to work for, no matter how good the kickstand or magnets are. Worth double-checking your model number before you click the Amazon listing, because a wrong-model return is an annoying way to lose a week.

What’s Actually Holding Your Phone In

PC back + TPU bumper: the edges sit high enough that face-down or back-down drops don’t touch the camera or screen. The magnets are the upgraded N52SH kind, which is what lets this snap onto MagSafe chargers, car mounts, wallets, and battery packs at 25W fast charging without feeling loose. The built-in ring stand flips from 0 to 180 degrees, so you can kick it down for scrolling or watching something horizontally, and it folds flat when you’re not using it so it doesn’t add bulk to your pocket. 0:00

Is the Kickstand Built to Last?

Rated for 10,000 cycles; in hand, the hinge resists floppy sagging and stays put at any angle. The hinge has some resistance to it, not loose or floppy, so when you prop it up at an angle it actually stays there instead of slowly sagging flat. The buttons along the side, including the camera shortcut button, still give you that responsive, clicky feel through the case, which tells me the material isn’t thick enough to deaden the press but is still doing its job protecting the phone.

The One Thing I’d Flag

The kickstand does add a noticeable ridge when folded, you’ll feel it against your palm, but the bottom of the case is cut wide enough that Lightning dongles and USB-C accessories still plug in flush without having to pull the case off. The charging port cover is a bonus: a small rubber flap that keeps pocket lint out without being annoying to open. That’s a smaller complaint than most cases with a kickstand built in.

Who Should Actually Buy This iPhone Pro Max Case

Buy this if you’re carrying a car mount, stand, and screen protector separately and want all three built in. The texture is smooth without being slippery, and the raised camera lip and screen lip mean a face-down slide across a desk doesn’t end with a scratched lens or cracked glass, which is the baseline job of any case, and this one clears it without adding the kind of grip-tape bulk that makes the phone annoying to pocket.

Pros

  • Buttons stay clicky and responsive through the case
  • MagSafe charges right through it, no need to remove the case
  • Privacy screen protector included and installs easily
  • Kickstand folds flat and still fits peripheral devices at the bottom
  • Charging port has its own dirt cover

Cons

  • Only fits the iPhone 18 Pro Max, not the 17 lineup or 18/18 Pro
  • Kickstand adds extra thickness when folded down

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this case work with other MagSafe accessories besides chargers?

Yes, the N52SH magnets are built to snap onto car mounts, wallets, and battery packs in addition to wireless chargers. The case is also magnetic enough on its own to stick to metal surfaces without any extra accessory attached.

Will the kickstand interfere with wireless charging?

No, you charge through the back of the case with the kickstand folded flat, and MagSafe charging works at the full 25W regardless of whether the stand has been used recently. The stand only engages when you flip it open yourself.

Is there a warranty if I order the wrong model?

TONGATE offers a 12-month warranty covering wrong models, defective items, or damaged units, plus 24/7 support through the Amazon product page. You contact them directly through the “Ask a Question” option on the listing.

Does the privacy screen protector affect touch sensitivity?

No, the privacy glass is built to keep full touch sensitivity while still blocking side-angle viewing. It also carries scratch and abrasion resistance so it holds up the same way a standard tempered glass protector would.

Loses a half star for being locked to one phone model only, the 18 Pro Max. Everything else, from the clicky buttons to the magnet strength, is close to a 4.5 on its own, and a slimmer kickstand fold would close the gap.
